Karla Sutra
Biography
Karla Sutra (born in 1990 in Paris, France) lives and works in Paris.
After studying design, she trained in clay at Atelier Trétaigne in Paris. Ceramics bring together her knowledge and aspirations, nourishing a sensorial and generous aesthetic world. Drawing inspiration from Mediterranean frescoes, monastic architecture and Japanese hentai, the artist of Catalan heritage depicts intertwined bodies in what she calls “illusionistic frolics”, evoking our relationship with pleasure and eroticism. Inspired by the relationship between the body and food, she naturally turns to the table as a site of experimentation. Her work, which now spans painting, tableware, object design and interior architecture, explores our societies’ relationship with sensuality while questioning established boundaries between tradition and the avant-garde, craft and contemporary art.
Karla Sutra held her first solo exhibition in Paris in 2023. She is currently developing her first series of porcelain sculptures, works from which have already been shown at Galerie Services Continu (Paris) and Galerie La peau de l’Ours (Brussels). She regularly collaborates with designers and chefs.
